John Ellison entered the commercial real estate industry in 1977 as an industrial leasing agent for Ackerman Company, an Atlanta based commercial real estate development and brokerage firm. His two years of work there consisted primarily of representing tenants to various industrial developments throughout the city.
In June 1979, he went to work for Franklin Property Company, the Chevy Chase, Maryland based real estate management, brokerage and development subsidiary of the B. F. Saul Real Estate Investment Trust, as a leasing agent. He was later promoted to Assistant Vice President of the Office and Industrial Division. During that time, he was directly responsible for marketing and assisting in managing over 1.0 million square feet of office and industrial space in Atlanta, as well as office projects in Houston, New Orleans, and Louisville. Responsibilities included handling all phases of tenanfflandlord lease negotiations, coordinating tenant space planning, preparation of operating budget projections, providing marketing studies for various land holdings in metro Atlanta to help determine the best use for future development, and creating and implementing marketing plans for the various existing projects.
Mr. Ellison joined Coers, Steinemann Company in October, 1980 as Director of Marketing for the company's retail, office, and high technology developments as well as overseeing the general brokerage operations. Later promoted to Vice President of the Industrial Division, his responsibilities included opening and managing a second office for the company and full responsibility for marketing, managing, and coordinating interior construction as well as assisting with development at Place, Coers, Steinemann's 80 acre high technology development in Gwinnett County.
In October 1983, Coers, Steinemann & Company changed its partnership structure and name to Steinemann Company. Mr. Ellison continued as Vice President with similar brokerage and management responsibilities, and in addition, personally supervised the development, design, and construction of two (2) additional square foot business park buildings at Place as well as assisting with the re-development and marketing of the nine story Peachtree Lenox Building in Atlanta's Office Market.
In December 1984, Mr. Ellison left Steinemann Company to join The Ellison Company and establish his own commercial real estate company under the existing Ellison Company name. He is currently President of The Ellison Company which specializes primarily in tenant and user representation for office and industrial leasing and sales requirements. The company has been engaged in commercial brokerage, management and development in Atlanta since 1967.
In addition, Mr. Ellison is a Partner in the affiliate company, Crossley, Jernigan Ellison,Inc. which was formed in November, 1988 to offer project marketing, management, development, and acquisition services for its clients. He is also a corporate officer in the interior design firm, Ellison, Lambert Interiors. Mr. Ellison has been directly involved in the marketing and/or management of business parks and office projects totaling 3.5 million square feet with over 4.0 million square feet of leased space credited to his efforts. He has also been involved in the direct supervision of over 2.5 million square feet of interior office construction.
